County Fair

Elephant Ear BEFORE, originally uploaded by Riverside Dreamer.

Well, I went to the fair today to see how my photos did in the contest.

My color photo did not win any thing, but my black & white photo did win a 2nd place ribbon. I'm a little disappointed, but I know everyone can't win. LOL

I did feel a little better after I went and ate an elephant ear! ;-)

A little sugar always helps! LOL

Maybe I'll do better in the contest next year! *sigh*

Meet me at the fair.

Nature is beautiful!, originally uploaded by Riverside Dreamer.

This year for the first time I have decided to enter a couple of photos in to the county fair to be judged.

This is my color photo entry. I took my photos down there today, and they judge them this afternoon. I will find out tomorrow how I did.

Here is my black & white entry...

At Last

I love this song, it's one of my favorite songs of all time. I just wanted to share it with everyone, because a lot of people have never heard it.

It is from her album "Love Songs". I belive it was recorded in the early 60's. She has a fantastic voice!

Tell me what you think of the song!

Friday Fill Ins

1. I believe whatever doesn't kill you will give you nightmares. LOL

2. If you're good at something, don't let anyone tell you your not.

3. Why so serious.

4. Something is out there, it's watching you. :-0

5. If my life were a sitcom, it would be titled As The Stomach Turns. LOL

6. Sitting on my back porch [if you don't have one, use your imagination] I see a lawn that needs mowed. LOL

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to lots of sleep, tomorrow my plans include hopefully a movie and Sunday, I want to go eat out!

Today was one of those rare July days that it wasn't too hot, and the sky was full of big fluffy clouds that you love to see what shapes you can find in them. I decided to drive around for a little while and take a couple of shots with my camera.

The first one is of a flower that is growing along the fence in our back yard.

The second one is a close up shot of the fountain that sits in the middle of our small town.

The third one is a flower in the flower garden that surrounds the fountain.

The last one I took next to the railroad tracks.

Next week is our county fair, I hope the weather stays like this for a little longer.

Thunder, Lighting, and Great Danes, OH MY

I just had to tell a funny story about something that happened to my husband and I last night. We made a late night trip to the local Kroger. On the way home we turned on to our street and we saw an large animal in our head lights. For just a second we thought it was a deer, but then we realized it was a BIG dog. It was a Great Dane just trotting down the street. LOL

Fast forward about three hours....

A big storm started passing over our area. There was a lot of thunder and lighting, the sky looked like a giant strobe light. We decided to set out on the porch swing and watch the storm for a while. All the sudden I saw something big walking down the street out of the corner of my eye. I got up to see what it was, and it was the same Great Dane. I turned around to tell my husband what I saw and the dog must have heard me because it started pacing back and forth in front of our fence. My husband stood up to see him, and the dog saw us and decided to come into the yard.

He stuck his nose in the front gate, and started coming in. My husband said something, and I looked to see where the dog was and all the sudden the sky lit up and it was standing right beside me. I yelled and just about jumped out of my skin. LOL It was huge, it was so tall it went past my waist. It was sopping wet and shook all the water off on to my husband and me. We were soaking wet. LOL My husband decided we better come in the house because if our cat smelled dog on us she would have a fit! LOL

Well, the dog decided it wanted to come in the house. We nearly never got in to the house. LOL

We were really lucky the dog was good natured. If he had wanted to, he could have had us for a late night snack. LOL My husband said if we had a saddle, I could saddled it up and rode around the neighborhood. LOL

It hung out on our front porch until the storm passed, and then went on it's way. I hope it found it's way home. It looked so pitiful out there all wet and sad looking!
It had a nice collar on, but we didn't see a tag on it.

Friday Fill Ins

1. If I could be a fly on the wall I would probably be killed by a fly swatter before I could hear anything worthwhile. LOL

2. Jealousy is the end of a lot of relationships.

3. When I see a shooting star my wish would be that I could go back to the Riverside Camp in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

4. I'd rather be Riverside than working any day!

5. Certain songs when I hear them make me wanna cry.

6. If time were in a bottle I'd be on vacation all the time.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to seeing the new Batman movie, tomorrow my plans include work :-( and Sunday, I want to see the movie Mamma Mia!

I still miss her!

One year ago on July 13th 2007 our sweet kitty Sassy passed away. I still miss her so much! We adopted her from the local animal shelter on June 7th 2002. She was so tiny and sweet! We went through several names before finally deciding on Sassy. The name just fit her so well, there was really no other choice! LOL

She was only 5 years old when she passed away. We thought we would have her around a lot longer than that. She got sick very quickly, and we took her to the vet on Friday July 13th, and the vet called 3 hours later and told us she didn't make it. I wish I had stayed with her. It makes me cry every time I think about her being alone when she passed away!

People can't seem to understand why I still get emotional when I talk about her, but she was our baby. She was the first kitty my husband and I adopted together and I will always miss her. Friends still ask when I'm going to "replace" her. She can't be "replaced"! She was a member of our family!!!

Tiger Lily is so used to being the only kitty now that bringing in another brother or sister for her would be hard. I know she misses Sassy too. I'm sure we will adopt another kitty some day, but I'm still not ready yet.

If any one happens to read this and you have a "fur-kid" at home ;-) please give them a extra hug in memory of Sassy!
